Weekend Houses in Povoa De Cervaes
Design of small housing units for recreational purposes in rural Portugal.
These two small weekend houses, located at a housing estate near the village of Povoa de Cervaes in Portugal, provide temporary auxiliary accommodation for weekend retreats of an extended family.
The first one is a linear volume with a clear separation between common and intimate spaces. A porch, integrated within the building’s volume, offers a sheltered exterior space in addition to the main platform deck that opens to the field of trees.
The second house is a cubic volume in which the sleeping areas are designed as two identical and autonomous boxes sheltered under one roof. The common rooms – a kitchen/dining and a living area – develop on the negative space in between the two boxes and face the field of trees and the existing house of the estate. The top of the “bedroom boxes” can be used as additional sleeping mezzanines.
